In 1934 Florence Ilott was notable for running the length of Westminster Bridge, adjacent to the UK Houses of Parliament, during the time taken for the clock on Big Ben to strike twelve times.

She was born 20 September 1913 and died 31 May 2002 and was employed in the catering staff at the House of Commons. She was an keen runner and won several prizes in amateur competitions.

There was a traditional challenge for House of Commons staff, and MPs, to try to run the length of Westminster Bridge (1160 feet) while Big Ben was striking noon (46 seconds).[1] On 14 April 1934 [1][2][3] she succeeded in this challenge.

This event was used in a BBC radio programme in 2018.[4]
