It is set to be released on TBA, through Streamline and Interscope Records as a follow-up to Joanne (2016). Background and developmentIn March 2017, it was announced that Gaga would be replacing Beyoncé as a headliner for 2017's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival due to the latter's pregnancy.[1] While performing at the festival on April 16, 2017, Gaga said to the crowd: "I've been so excited for this next part of the show because I've been trying to keep it a secret for so long. I've been in the studio and I'd like to debut a brand new song, 'The Cure'" and played the song for the first time.[2] After her set was done, the song was released on iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, and Google Play. It was sent to American contemporary hit radio stations on April 25, 2017.[3] "The Cure" was written after Gaga's performance at the Super Bowl LI halftime show.[4] Initially, press inquiries into whether or not "The Cure" would be a stand alone release or a piece of a bigger project were met with the former option; all of the interviews conducted with the collaborators indicated the song was the only produced in the session.[5] However, in the press interviews with Gaga after it was announced she would embark on one final performance of her 2016 Dive Bar Tour, she hinted new music would be performed and released during the new leg's stop, as well as during the globe-crossing Joanne World Tour.[5] However, the Dive Bar Tour performance was later postponed indefinitely due to scheduling conflicts,[6] and it was later revealed by Gaga in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that due to the constraints of the tour production, specifically the strictly-scheduled synchronization of its various technologies with the performances, there most likely will not be any new material performed on the Joanne World Tour, let alone any deviation from the structure of the show itself.[7] It was also revealed in the same interview that production had begun on Joannes follow up, with Gaga offering that the album was still in the initial writing stage.[7] September 2017 saw the release of Five Foot Two, a cinéma vérité-style documentary directed by visual artist Chris Moukarbel and distributed by streaming service Netflix worldwide. The documentary covered a wide range of topics, including Gaga's struggles with fibromyalgia, a medical condition marked by chronic bouts of widespread pain and excessive fatigue. On September 14, Gaga's planned high-profile performance at the 2017 Rock in Rio music festival was cancelled due to her ongoing hospitalization to treat a severe pain flare-up,[8] and days later later, on September 18, it was announced that the entire European leg of the tour was to be postponed to January 2018 to for the same reason.[9] In December 2017, it was announced Gaga has signed a two-year residency deal to perform at the MGM Park Theater in Las Vegas. The show, named Lady Gaga Enigma, began its run on December 28, 2018.[10][11] Writing and recording"The Cure" was developed in Los Angeles where Gaga and her team were working on some other music before the singer became busy with her acting endeavor for A Star Is Born. Gaga utilized this free time she had and asked Blair to meet up and see if they could come up with any new music. Once completed, "The Cure" was decided to be released, due to the positive nature and message in the track, although Gaga was just six months into the life cycle of her fifth studio album era, Joanne.[12] During her hiatus from the Joanne World Tour, Gaga has posted several updates indicating she was in the process of recording new music with Artpop collaborator DJ White Shadow at Dead Aunt Thelma's studio in Portland, Oregon.[13][14] It was later confirmed by various news outlets that their collaboration summed up to production for Gaga's forthcoming studio release.[15][16] In the first seven months of 2018, Gaga has been seen at various recording studios in and around Los Angeles and New York City. The former portion of the sessions have been attributed to post-production work for Bradley Cooper's A Star Is Born, a remake of the 1937 film of the same name in which she has top billing. The latter portion of the sessions have mostly been attributed to further production for the album. Producer BloodPop, who had co-produced every song on the standard edition of Gaga's previous studio album Joanne (2016), had shared on his various social media accounts that he and Gaga had been recording at the singer's Malibu estate with German electronic music producer Boys Noize.[17] In July 2018, experimental electronic music producer Sophie confirmed she had contributed production work to the upcoming project, but was unaware of whether or not her collaboration had made the final cut.[18] ReleaseIn response to tabloid reports saying she might be pregnant, Gaga tweeted "Rumors I’m pregnant? Yeah, I’m pregnant with #LG6" on March 12, 2019.[19][20][21] "LG6" is the colloquial term used online to reference the album, it itself an acronym (Lady Gaga 6).[20] Recorded Tracks
