Gary B. Wesley is a Mountain View, California attorney who has regularly submitted opposing arguments to California ballot propositions since 1978.[1] Wesley first had two opposing arguments printed in the 1980 voter guide, including a failed property tax break for disaster victims. He missed out in 1982 and 1984 before returning with six in 1986. Despite having run for Mountain View City Council in 1980 and a Municipal Court seat in Santa Cruz in 1984 he expresses little interest in running for public office. In the fall of 2001 Wesley expressed that "we will have to seal our borders. Otherwise, terrorists (not already here) will simply enter through Canada and Mexico" when arguing in opposition to a day workers' center in Mountain View.[2] In 2018 Wesley was noted for being the sole opposition to Proposition 71, a measure which changed the effective date for passing ballot initiatives.[3] As an attorney, Wesley represented Saratoga resident Cheriel Jensen in a lawsuit against Santa Clara County's VTA over a transportation sales tax.
