词条 | Draft:Gender inequality in the workplace |
释义 |
Introduction: There has been gender inequality in the workforce for ages. According to the International Labor Organization, women have been earning money, but not as much as men. This organization states that, “In 2010, American women on average earned 81 percent of what their male counterparts earned”(ILO 1). This inequality should not be allowed. We chose this article because it shows that even though, there is an increase in pay for women, work still needs to be done. This also goes for the positions that are available for men and women. This organization asserted that, “In terms of women in leadership positions, in 2009 only 24 percent of CEOs in the US were women and they earned 74.5 percent as much as male”(ILO 1). The fact that there is a barrier to what a women can achieve in the workplace is discouraging and unfair. Even if a woman is equally has qualified for a higher position, or promotion, the title would most likely go to the male, according to these findings. Numbers and data do not lie. This is something that needs to be made even more aware to society, for this inequality can lead women to feelings of inferiority and unhopeful. There needs to be action taken to make the wap gap zero percent, but until then, steps needs to be taken.
