Early Years

General Ahmad Ali was born in the year 1911 in Jaghori, Ghazni Province, Afghanistan into a family of notable aristocrat Hazaras. He is Afghanistan's first Hazara to be ranked as General within the Afghan National Army, and first Hazara Chief Justice (Head of Courts) of the Afghan Ministry of Defence. He was given the moniker "Baba" by the Afghan people and is commonly known as "General Baba." In addition to this, he is the distant relative of Akram Yari and Musa Khan

He completed his elementary education in his hometown, Jaghori, later relocating to Kabul to complete further studies. In 1930 he was chosen to be enrolled in the infantry service detachment, which was based off of his talent and competence. In 1931, he successfully completed his permanent infantry training and higher education, and was appointed to begin his service as a Captain in the Guard Detachment until 1932. From 1932 to 1939 he served in the First Division Central Force (Division 7 within Afghanistan's current military structure).

Military Career

In 1940, when he was ranked "Major" he was appointed as Commander of a Battalion in Division 2 (Division 8 within Afghanistan's current military structure). In 1946, after serving six years of service and due to his competence, merit and bravery, General Baba was ranked as Lieutenant Colonel. He was appointed as the Deputy of the Second Brigade of the First Division. In the early 1330, he was ranked as Colonel and was appointed as the Commander of Regiment 63 of the Kandahar forces.

In the fall of 1959, he was appointed within the same rank as the head of military purchasing of Afghanistan's Ministry of Defence, and continued to function in this post until 1969. In 1960, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General, and in 1966 he was ranked as Major General whilst still functioning in the same post. In 1969, he was appointed as a Commander of Paktia Force 12. In 1972, after years of service in high ranking and sensitive posts within Afghanistan's National Military, he retired.

After the Saur Revolution (July 7, 1973) Mohammed Daoud Khan reappointed General Baba in the same rank of Major General and appointed him as Commander of Ghazni Force 14. Later he was appointed as Chief of Justice (Head of Courts) of Afghanistan's National Defence Ministry.

Throughout his military career he defended Afghanistan's national interests in military battles such as the uprising of Ibrahim Beyk, the uprising and revolt of Katawaz Valleys and Jadran.

General Ahmad Ali Baba was awarded the following medals and badges throughout his military career:

Death

General Ahmad Ali Baba passed away on the night of October 10, 1975 (15 of Mezan). At his funeral and burial ceremony Lt General Abdul Karim Mostaghni Afghanistan's Chief of Army, Major General Gholam Hadir Rasouli and the Afghan Commander of the Central Corps were present. Likewise, a large number of Generals and Senior Officers of the Afghan Army attended the funeral. Amongst the Hazara community, his death led to widespread mourning throughout Kabul and the provinces. Major General Abdul Qadir Khaliq read the biography of the General Ahmad Ali Baba, followed by the Afghan Chief of Army praising Ahmad Ali for his honesty and the integrity throughout his service to the nation.

The body of deceased Major General Ahmad Ali, the Chief Justice (Head of Courts) of the National Defence Ministry, was carried from his house on the afternoon of October 11, 1975 (16th of Mezan), with a special military ceremony, and was laid to rest at hillside of Aliabad Mountain.
