Academic career

After a 1998 MSc title 'Selection bias and confounding associated with echocardiographic estimation of left ventricular mass' ^[2] and a 2006 PhD titled 'The role of contemporary echocardiography in the management of heart failure' at the University of Auckland, Whalley built on work at Unitec Institute of Technology, moving to the University of Otago and rising to full professor^[1] while maintaining an honorary position at Auckland^[3]
