释义 | The Glastonbury Citizen is published in Glastonbury, Connecticut, once a week on Thursday. It covers local news, sports, business, and community events in Glastonbury and South Glastonbury. It was established in the late 1940s. Estimated circulation is 7,792.[1] Editor/Publisher: Jim Hallas Family operated It was established in 1950 by Lewis A. Miller.[2][3][4] Henry and Marion Hallas purchased the newspaper in 1953.[5] Henry Hallas retired as publisher in 1989.[6] Publisher James Hallas is the author of Doughboy War: The American Expeditionary Force in World War I; The Devil's Anvil: The Assault on Peleliu; Squandered Victory: The American First Army at St. Mihiel; and Killing Ground on Okinawa: The Battle for Sugar Loaf Hill.[7] Tink Henderson was a long-time editor of the Citizen. After starting part-time shortly after the Hallases purchased the newspaper in 1953, she eventually worked her way up to editor in the mid-1960s. She remained in this role until she retired in 1988, but returned after that for several temporary roles. She retired in 2000.[5] The Citizen was sued by Victoria Square LLC over an April Fool's edition of the paper published on April 1, 2004. The Citizen printed an article in which they stated that Victoria Square planned to build a 250,000 square foot Wal-Mart store, Connecticut's largest Hooters restaurant, and a helicopter launching pad. In Victoria Square, LLC v. The Glastonbury Citizen (2006), the Superior Court of CT, Judicial District of Hartford, ruled in favor of the Citizen, stating that the article was a parody and therefore could not be defamatory.[8] |
