Global Alliance of Quality Accredited International Movers - FIDI

Founded in 1950, the Global Alliance of Quality Accredited International Movers (FIDI) is a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.

FIDI is a federation of national and supra-national intercontinental household goods removals trade associations.

Its original name stands for ‘Federation Internationale des Déménageurs Internationaux’ (French), abbreviated as ‘FIDI’. Its current legal name is ‘FIDI’ and its trading name is ‘The FIDI Global Alliance.’

Language usage

The official language is English.

History

Created on 16 July 1950 as a European organization, FIDI evolved into a global organization in the late seventies and consistently expanded its services offering to its Affiliates.

Further to the worldwide evolution and the importance of quality in trade, FIDI came to the realization that there was a lack of standardization in the international removal industry and a need for quality and reliable removal companies. A working committee of industry experts was set up.

The committee analysed what should be expected from a professional international moving company and described every aspect into a standard; every aspect of the move (from the first enquiry to the full range of destination services including Insurance and claim handling) and all aspects of the business (administration, operations, staff performance, facilities, finances and security) was covered.

The Committee worked on 16 parameters required for a professional international moving company and handed them over to an independent auditing company, Ernst & Young, to convert into a standard. The ‘FIDI Accredited International Mover’ (abbreviated ‘FAIM’) standard was born.

In 2004, FAIM became FIDI’s sole membership entrance criterion and was later on imposed on all existing members as well. Companies have to prove annually that they remain in compliance with the FAIM quality criteria and have to succeed in a physical audit process undergone by an independent auditing company, failing which they lose their FAIM Certification and consequently also their FIDI affiliation ((https://moverdb.com/fidi-faim/ )).

The FAIM quality certification is reviewed annually by a committee of experts to ensure it remains ahead of major industry and business requirements. Over the years, it underwent 3 major revamps, the latest of which focusing specifically on compliance requirements ((http://www.vsu-moving.ch/About-VSU.20.0.html?&L=2)), supply chain management ((reference: http://www.themover.co.uk/back-issues/news/2015/12/13/fidi-upgrades-faim)) and financial assessment.

Scope and purpose

FIDI’s main scope and purpose is to provide a forum for its members to advance and promote integrity, quality and mutual understanding and to encourage co-operation between affiliated removal companies around the world focused on intercontinental household and personal effects removals. FIDI also provides educational programs and studies designed to promote Affiliates’ expertise and reputation within the intercontinental removals marketplace.

Structure

FIDI is comprised of member associations (FIDI Associations), Affiliates and affiliated branches that meet annually at the FIDI General Assembly and Delegates Meeting.

The FIDI Associations are full voting members of FIDI. These are national and supranational intercontinental household furniture removals trade associations which are legal persons constituted in accordance with law and custom of the country in which they are established.

FIDI Affiliates are FAIM certified intercontinental household furniture removers, which are full voting members of a national or supranational household furniture removals trade association mentioned above.
