The Great Capitol View Tornado of 2018

The Great Capitol View Tornado of 2018 refers to an EF-0 tornado that touched down in the Capitol View neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia on October 10, 2018.[1] Damage from the tornado generally occurred along Dill Ave, Fairbanks St, Allene Ave, Erin Ave, Avon Ave and Hartford Ave - with several downed trees and power lines occurring along those streets.

Meteorological Synopsis

The tornado touched down around 6:38pm on Wednesday October 10, 2018.[2] The tornado itself was a result of Hurricane Michael, which was a Category 1 storm at the time. The National Weather service has stated the tornado was an EF-0, with winds between 65 and 85 mph. The Tornado traveled for a little over a mile, with a maximum width of roughly 100 yards.[3] Approximately four trees were felled during the event, cutting power to about 700 customers for more than 12 hours. Despite the damage to trees, damage to homes was limited.
