Green Mountain Bluegrass & Roots is an annual music festival held in mid-August in Manchester, Bennington County, Vermont^[1]. The festival features a variety of traditional American roots music including contemporary and traditional bluegrass, folk, Cajun, old-time and more. The four-day music festival features music from both icons of the industry and innovative up-and-coming artists, with a focus on highlighting regional artists and businesses. The event runs Thursday through Sunday in mid-August and attendance averages about 1,000 patrons per day and up to 3,000 individual patrons over the 4-days of the event. The event was held at Hunter Park in its inaugural year and will return to the location in 2019.

In addition to performances on a main stage and dance tent, other activities include camping, children’s entertainment, yoga, dancing, jamming, food trucks, crafts and goods vendors and on site luthiers.

History

Green Mountain Bluegrass & Roots began in 2018 by husband and wife festival producers John and Jill Turpin^[2]. The event is located at Hunter Park, a 20 acre field bordered by a tributary to the Battenkill River and within walking distance to downtown Manchester.^[3].

GMBR is committed to using only Vermont-based vendors and service providers whenever possible, as they aim to enhance both the cultural and economic scene of the region^[4]. By building a world class event that draws a respectful and appreciative audience, GMBR looks to shine a spotlight on this special place^[5]

Program

Each year the festival program includes about 25 acts on a main stage and dance tent stage. Performances continue into the night on the "Lamplighter Stage" as well. Both "stars and newbies"^[6] are featured in the line-up. Notable artists have included Peter Rowan, Mandolin Orange, Sierra Hull, Molly Tuttle and Donna the Buffalo^[7]. The inaugural 2018 event also included Mipso, Lonely Heartstring Band, Jordan Tice and more.
