Gregory Gopman (born January 31, 1984) is an American technology entrepreneur and the founder of AngelHack, global hackathon organization that hosts a competition where entrants compete to build, test, and launch new software solutions.

Early life and career

Gregory was born on January 31, 1984 in North Miami Beach and went to school at University of Florida from 2002 to 2007, with a major in Marketing and Finance.[1] He Started Weekend Gator in 2007, a bus transportation company similar to Bolt Bus, which sold to Fabulous Coachlines in 2008, which later sold for $50 million.[2] In 2008, he started Phone Nurses, an iPhone refurbishment and distribution center, which has 3 locations throughout Florida.[3]

He moved to San Francisco in 2011 and started AngelHack, a global hackathon competition, alongside Greg Osuri. AngelHack is the largest hackathon competition in the world with 100,000 members worldwide.[4]

In 2013 he left AngelHack and also made a controversial Facebook post complaining about lawlessness and homelessness on Market Street, the post went viral.[5] In Jan 2015 Greg started A Better San Francisco, a community group aimed at Solving San Francisco’s homeless problem. They were responsible for throwing the cities largest homeless public forum and bringing the Downtown Streets Team to San Francisco.

In June 2015 Greg proposed using temporary land and turning it into Transition Centers to solve homelessness. In July 2015 Greg proposed working with neighboring county’s to make a Regional Housing Solution to solve homelessness.

In 2016 Greg partnered with former San Francisco Mayor Art Agnos and proposed buying Cruise ships as a temporary housing solution to solve homelessness.[6][7]

In October 2016, Greg was hired to lead VR and AR projects at Twitter.[8] He was fired a month later when TechCrunch wrote an article mocking Twitter for hiring him.[9] The sudden firing went viral, but Greg never sued.[10]

In 2017, Greg re-joined his old co-founder from AngelHack, Greg Osuri to build Overclock Labs, a company focused on automating cloud infrastructure.[11]
