Gregory Reveret, who also goes by Greg Reve, is a film composer, music producer and arranger.[1][2], His best-known work was collaborating with musician deadmau5 on their album where's the drop, released in 2018.[3][4][5][6] and which peaked at number 9 on Billboard magazine's US Classical Albums.

Career

Reveret started releasing dubstep and drum'n'bass with San Fransisco record label Muti Music in 2009[7]. In 2010 Reveret would begin by composing music for TV ads.In 2013 his composition for Loxion Kulca "Roots" won him Best Song or Composition in a Television Production at the Wawela Music Awards.[1][8]

Shortly after, Reveret moved to Los Angeles to work at Remote Control Productions as a composers assistant, where he would eventually contribute arrangements on feature film projects.

Where's the Drop?

Where's the drop is an orchestral album released in 2018 featuring deadmau5 tracks “Imaginary Friends,” “Ira,” “Superbia” and more, composed and arranged by Greg Reveret[4]

Reveret first connected with Zimmerman on his "mau5trap Monday' Twitch livestream, where Zimmerman listens to music submissions. "Greg sent one in and it was an insane film score, fully orchestrated and everything, and I thought it was a joke,” Zimmerman says. “I researched it and found out it was Greg Reveret. I was like, ‘I’ve got some ideas kicking around, we should transcribe and see if we can do it.’”[9]

Zimmerman had long wanted to explore an orchestral album and Reveret's wide range of sounds - from symphonic music to dubstep - made him the perfect partner in crime. At the beginning of their work together, Zimmerman and Reveret first tackled “Superbia” from 7.  More followed, as Zimmerman put his trust in the composer to dive into the music and come back with orchestral pieces that still fit within the Deadmau5 aesthetic. “Greg is a composer. He composes,” Zimmerman says. “I just gave him a set of guidelines, which is the music. It’s like a coloring book: ‘Use your palette.'[5]

The result was an album that includes 15 songs, and was recorded over two days in February at EastWest Studios in Hollywood with the 73 piece CMG Music Recording Orchestra. [5] The album includes tracks Strobe, Gula, Acedia, Luxuria, Imaginary Friends. “F’n Pig” — an edgier single that appears difficult to score — melts under Reveret's expertise, remolding into an enticing composition armed  with stark cello solos and Handel-esque communication between brass, violin, and viola.[10]

The album was initially released exclusively on Tidal in conjunction with a sold out live concert at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, CA on April 1 2018.  For Zimmerman and Reveret, the delivery method of the album was far less important than the content, which is something both of them are immensely proud of, especially, since from a collaborative standpoint, they both get to hear the record as fans of the other’s work. ”[4] “I get to listen and enjoy music that is partially mine,” Zimmerman says. “Maybe influenced and guided, I created some simple outlines, but ultimately I’m hearing a derivative work.”[4] The album also contains extra pieces written by Reveret, namely Caritas and Unjaded.{{cn}}
