Gubbrockarna is a rock band from Vaasa, Finland. The band consists of about 20 hobby musicians from the city and surroundings. Their repertoire mainly consists of rock and blues classics from the 1950s to the 70s. The band's leader from the start of 1998 until 2014 was Krister Kulju. Since 2015, the leader has been Rolf Sahlström. HistoryGubbrockarna (old-man rockers) originated from an evening course called Gubbrock, which started at the Vasa Workers’ Institute in the autumn of 1998. The teacher was Krister Kulju, who later became Gubbrockarna's leader. The course ran from 1998–2011. The first public performance that the course participants held under the name Gubbrockarna was at the Workers’ Institute's Christmas party in 1998. [1] In addition to performing in their home town and Swedish-speaking Ostrobothnia, Gubbrockarna have also played at the Matthew Street Festival and The Cavern Club in Liverpool (2006), as well as at Skansen in Stockholm (2009). A documentary – Gubbrockarna – was made about the Liverpool trip. It was produced by Susanne Skata (Sus Productions) and has been featured on one of Finland’s national television channels, Yle TV5. Gubbrockarna began collaborating with the two public theaters in Vaasa in the early 2000s. In 2003, the band gave its first concert at Vaasa City Theater. In February 2004 and March 2005, Gubbrockarna performed at Wasa Theater. In February 2008, the band performed the show Gubbrockaren at Vaasa City Theater. The Golden Age Of Rock'n'roll music show was premiered at the City Theater March 6, 2012 and The Amazing Sixties on February 6, 2014. The show Fifty-Sixty was played in February-March 2015 and Gubbrockarna Goes Movies was recorded in February-May 2016. Since 2016, Gubbrockarna have performed annually in early December with a Christmas show – Rocking Around The Christmas Tree – at the Ritz in Vaasa. On 3–4 March 2017, Gubbrockarna performed in southern Finland at Culture House Grand in Porvoo and the Culture House Karelia in Ekenäs. The show with the best of Gubbrockarna was named Jukebox and was played at Vaasa City Theater on 6–8 April 2017. In spring 2018, Gubbrockarna set up a 20th anniversary show at Vaasa City Theater. It was called 20 Years Of Rock'n'roll and was performed seven times. Gubbrockarna have also regularly performed at the night of Art in Vaasa Record releasesGubbrockarna recorded five singles from 1999–2003, as the end of the course year. In 2004, the band released its first double CD, Sex with Gubbrockarna, a live recording from the show with the same name at Wasa Theater. In 2005, the Seventh Cookbook, recorded live at Hotel Tropiclandia in Vaasa on May 14, same year. In 2006, Gubbrockarna released Live at the Cavern, a recording from The Cavern Club in Liverpool that year. In 2013, The Golden Age of Rock'n'roll came. The record is a studio production of songs featured in the band's theater show with the same name. The same package includes a DVD documentary about the band's work in the recording studio. A live recording of the show Gubbrockarna Goes Movies at Vaasa City Theater was released as a double-DVD 2016. The DVD was filmed and produced by Esa Siltaloppi. The Gubbrockarna AssociationGubbrockarna r.f. is a registered association whose purpose is to maintain Gubbrockarna. The association was founded in 2003.
