Hayden Ellett Hunt (born June 9, 1993) is an American football punter. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on January 2, 2019.[1] He played college football at Colorado State University. Early yearsHunt was born and raised in Long Beach, California and attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School. Hunt was a two-sport star at vaunted Long Beach Poly, an all-region placekicker, and four-time all-conference baseball player.[2] He holds the school record for longest field goal at 48 yards.[3] College careerHunt decided to pursue football in college was a walk-on player at Colorado State University. He redshirted in 2012 and after the season was told by coaches he was not good enough to win the placekicker spot. He was encouraged to switch to punting.[4] Prior to his college career, Hunt never punted more than a handful of times. He mastered the skill in less than a year, earning him the starting spot in the 2013-2016 seasons.[5] Hunt improved as a sophomore, earning honorable mention All-Mountain West honors (43.8 gross avg, 14 inside 20 vs four TB). A Ray Guy award finalist in 2015, Hunt ranked fifth in FBS in gross punting average (46.0 yards) and led the nation in net average (41.96) most of the year. The second-team All-Mountain West pick had 18 fair catches forced, 24 dropped inside the 20, and just a single touchback, all among the best figures in the country.
