Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Jersey City, NJ in the 1980s, his disenfranchised upbringing serves as a basis for the themes in his music and art..[1]Visual ArtAs an abstract painter, HiCoup's artwork uses multimedia techniques.[2] HiCoup's artistic themes touch on social issues and his work has been influenced by abstract expressionist artists like Willem de Kooning and Norman Lewis (artist). His work has been shown in various galleries including the Tribes Gallery in New York City[3], and the Russell Aldo Murray Gallery in Newark, NJ [4]. MusicHiCoup's Ghetto Factory Mixtape was his first release made in 2005. His most recent release in 2015, Beast of Burden, discusses the hardships of raising a son as a single father and the sacrifices that come with advancing his son's success, such as trading in a musical career for manual labor jobs.
