The Hipster effect is the phenomenon by which initially disparate behaviour converges to similar behaviour. The term was originally coined by Jonathan Touboul.[1][2] investigating the paradoxical observation the hipsters "conform in their non-conformity"[3]. The underlying drivers of the phenomenon are speculated to have implications for understanding synchronization of nerve cells and contrarian investment strategies in finance [4] References1. ^[https://arxiv.org/pdf/1410.8001.pdf The Hipster Effect: When anti-conformists all look the same J D Touboul originally posted 29 October 2014] {{stub}}2. ^[https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/neuronarrative/201412/are-you-vulnerable-the-hipster-effect Are You Vulnerable to the Hipster Effect? by David DiSalvo Psychology Today 2 December 2014] 3. ^{{cite news|title=Who's a Hipster?|first=Julia|last=Plevin|publisher=huffingtonpost.com|date=August 8, 2008|accessdate=Mar 20, 2019|url=http://www.huffingtonpost.com/julia-plevin/whos-a-hipster_b_117383.html |newspaper=Huffington Post}} 4. ^[https://www.technologyreview.com/s/613034/the-hipster-effect-why-anti-conformists-always-end-up-looking-the-same/ MIT Technology Review February 28, 2019] |
