The Hipster effect is the phenomenon by which initially disparate behaviour converges to similar behaviour. The term was originally coined by Jonathan Touboul.[1][2] investigating the paradoxical observation the hipsters "conform in their non-conformity"[3]. The underlying drivers of the phenomenon are speculated to have implications for understanding synchronization of nerve cells and contrarian investment strategies in finance [4]
