Innovation mindset is a business concept focusing on growth. The idea is said to acknowledge the value of constant learning and recognizes what unrestricted improvement can do to an organization or to individuals. Proponents believe that even great abilities can still be developed further.

Organizations possessing an innovation mindset provide workers with an environment where they can pursue opportunities. These organizations create systems, structures, and work settings that promote ingenuity and initiative. They are also seen to highlight a set of outcomes, shape and adapt to what is measured, monitored, and controlled to match their core values and targets, and strike the exact equilibrium between performance and innovation.^[1]

Indicators of an innovation mindset

There are six ways of thinking which indicate that an organization possesses innovation mindset:^[2]

Challenge supersedes everything

What inspires genuine innovators is the challenge, not the number of people reporting to them. The kind of difference they will make is more stimulating to them than the magnitude of the venture. They take pleasure in getting out of their comfort zone, into the unfamiliar, and into the unknown regardless of the enormity of the uncertainties confronting them.

Direction, not Destination

The challenge is the change medium for authentic innovators. They focus on the creation of legacy, not in protecting it. They pay no attention to letdowns and are continuously gazing at the advancements made and the evolution of change itself. They treat innovation appraisals like performance assessments.

Offense, not Defense

Genuine pacesetters begin by inquiring the world order instead of “obeying the rules of the game.” They initiate by dealing with the forces that hold everyone back, rather than “living with it.”

Questions, not Answers

Individuals with an innovation mindset search for new questions and continuously seek discoveries. They primarily become ‘value seekers,’ that is, they search for value in every experience, in every conversation. They don’t ask for instructions, they hunt for possibilities.

Connection vs. Convincing

True trendsetters prompt stakeholders into espousing and even co-owning the orbit-shifting idea. They go about “tilting” the heart first, believing that the mind will follow. They seek sharp-witted individuals, who overtly articulate their reservations and uncertainties, and then work together to surmount these issues.

Problems to Opportunities

Genuine innovators do not think of the “if-then” but “how and how else?” They alter problems to opportunities, and frequently, the new concept begins to develop to become a lot bigger than the initial undertaking.
