Integrated Youth Services is a movement to provide mental health care for young people aged roughly 12-25 in a way that addresses all of their needs through the same door rather than being organized around specific diagnoses or a split between adult/pediatric services.[1] Providers of integrated youth services typically combine mental health, physical health, vocational support, social services and peer support.[2] Most make use of a space that is non-clinical in its design by including drop-in spaces, hosting activities and offering services outside of business hours.[2] Integrated youth services are an example of early intervention, having grown out of the movement towards early intervention in psychosis and self-referral is a key feature.[3] Youth and family members are often directly involved in the design and governance of integrated youth service organizations.[2][3] Research is underway comparing the outcomes of youth who use integrated youth services with those who receive standard community care.[4][5] Australiaheadspace has 110 centers throughout Australia.[3]New ZealandYouth One-Stop Shops is a network, founded in 1994, with 14 centers in New Zealand.[2] IrelandJigsaw (formerly Headstrong) provides mental health services to youth aged 10-25 in 10 communities across Ireland.[6] FranceMaisons des Adolescents were established in 2004 and include 104 centers throughout France.[2] CanadaACCESS Open Minds has 14 sites throughout Canada, funded through a research grant to evaluate a model of changing how mental health services are provided to youth in different Canadian contexts.[5] Foundry is a network providing integrated youth services in the province of British Columbia. It had 7 centers open as of 2018 with more planned.[2] Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario consists of six hubs offering integrated youth services in the province of Ontario.[7] |
