Etymologycially, culture stems from the latin word "cultura" stemming from colere and meaning to cultivate[1], and management from Latin noun manus, meaning "hand" [2]. More catchingly, culture can be seen as the "software of the mind", as suggested by Geert Hofstede [3]; as such, intercultural management is about handling people with culturally differing minds. The challenge is that the differences cannot be directly seen, but need to be inferred. Further to G. Hofstede[4], Edward Twitchell Hall, Jr. (May 16, 1914 – July 20, 2009 is another founding father of the discipline of intercultural management; he was an American anthropologist and cross-cultural researcher and is remembered for developing the concept of proxemics and exploring cultural and social cohesion.[5]
