Ismael Monroig, Jr., (born April 3, 1978) is an American politician who is currently serving as City Commissioner in the City of Pembroke Pines.[1][2] Prior to serving as Commissioner, he served on the Pembroke Pines Planning and Zoning Board, as Chair of the Economic Development Board, member of the Charter Review Board and as Chair of the Chamber of Commerce.[3] During his time in office he initiated neighborhood improvement projects and implementation of the city's Economic Development Strategic Plan.[4] He has been critical of water management and quality within the city and secured funding for needed water utility upgrades to address water quality throughout Pembroke Pines. [5][6] Early Life and Family Ismael Monroig was born in Hoboken, New Jersey and moved to Homestead Florida in 1989 after having lived in Queens New York. He graduated from Homestead Senior High School in 1996 and then moved to South Broward County, Florida. He 2002 he joined the Board of Hoby South Florida where he volunteered for over a decade[7] where we won numerous awards for his leadership and service to the youth of South Florida [8] Political Career After many years of community service and municipal board service, Ismael unsuccessfully ran for City Commission in 2010, losing to incumbent Carl Shecther[9] before successfully becoming Commissioner in 2017. Commissioner Monroig publicly split with the Republican Party following the 2016 Florida Primaries and the states nomination of Donald J. Trump [10] Personal Life Ismael Monroig resides in Pembroke Pines, FL with his wife Angela and 4 children. He founded Monroig Enterprises a holding company for numerous businesses after having served as Vice President of PSAV an international technology company for 7 years, following a decade of success as a General Manager in the hotel & resort industry.
