Jack Foster (born 1982) is a writer, journalist, actor and documentary filmmaker from the Scottish Borders.

During the 2014 referendum on Scottish independence, Foster directed the feature-length documentary film Scotland Yet,^[1] produced by Christopher Silver. Alongside James Devoy, he went on to create the satirical news-spoof Dateline Scotland,^[2] later revived as Dateline 2018.^[3]

In late 2014, Foster (along with James Devoy) launched a campaign to create a new television news programme for Scotland. However, despite raising £37,000 in a crowdfunder campaign,^[4] they failed to find the necessary investment and the project was shelved. In 2015, alongside James Devoy and Carolyn Scott, Foster launched and co-presented NewsShaft, the flagship programme in an online Scottish politics radio platform between February and October 2015. Foster was NewsShaft's Political Editor, and presented a weekly radio show about the Scottish Parliament entitled 'Holyrood Weekly'.^[5]^[6]

Along with his former NewsShaft colleague Carolyn Scott, he went on to co-present the daily current affairs programme 'World in Focus' for Radio Sputnik^[7]^[8] between August 2016 and May 2017, subsequently co-presenting 'The World This Week', again with Carolyn Scott, for CommonSpace.^[9]

Foster has been a regular correspondent for Deutsche Welle’s 'Inside Europe' programme since early 2019. He is also the author of 'Catch 2014',^[10] an analysis of the strategic failures of the pro independence campaign during the Scottish independence referendum of 2014.

Jack Foster is a Scottish folk singer,^[11]^[12] and formerly a creator and co-presenter of 'The Garden Sessions', a podcast about the Scottish traditional music scene which ran between 2006-2009.^[13] In 2011, Foster released an album of traditional songs entitled 'An Hour Before The Dawn'.^[14]
