He grew up in Darlington and lived, as he described, a very fulfilling life.[1] Saunders has won a multitude of Oscars in his lifetime, for films such as 12 Years a Slave (film), The Dark Knight (film) and many others.[2] In early 2017, Saunders was elected the 2nd President of Gabon, but shortly resigned as he, "was a bit bored." In October 2017, his successor, Ali Bongo Ondimba, replaced his vice president with Saunders, after his old vice president was involved in a corruption scandal. On the 11th of October 2018, media reported that President Bongo Ondimba had fell seriously ill[3], and expectations of Saunders to replace him are high. Life in Gabon.On the 16th of October 2009, Jack Saunders was elected as President of Gabon, with a 500 seat majority for the Communist Party of Gabon (CPG). Under his leadership, a socialist economy was formed, with workplaces being owned by the workers and a centrally planned economy. Saunders often spoke out against colonialism, oppression, capitalism and imperialism. In a speech in 2014, President Saunders said in a speech to steel workers, "The colonialists and capitalists have become an extinct class in Gabon. Nobody will crush the Gabonese peoples' spirit and love for freedom through socialism."
