Janelle Asselin is an American comic book editor. She is currently working on freelance writing and freelance editing. Early LifeJanelle Asselin was born on April 10th, 1983. She grew up in Malvern, Iowa and currently resides in Omaha, Nebraska. Janelle Asselin attended Malvern Community Junior Senior High School. Janelle Asselin graduated from Southern New Hampshire University in 2009 with her Bachelor’s Degree in English. She furthered her education at Pace University where in 2011 she graduated with her Master’s Degree in Publishing. CareerIn 2006 Janelle Asselin began working for Newsarama where she would begin reviewing a variety of pop culture topics such as comic books and manga. After this, Janelle Asselin would begin working at Fangoria Graphix where she did various tasks such as proofreading and designing layout. After leaving Fangoria Graphix in August 2008, Asselin became a Line Editor where she would return to Newsarama for a short period of time which would lead to her start at DC Comics. Janelle Asselin began working at DC Comics in 2008. While working at DC Comics she worked on comics such as Batman, Batgirl, and Birds of Prey. Asselin left DC Comics in 2011 to work for Disney Publishing where a majority of her work was viewed overseas. Asselin was laid off from Disney Publishing in 2011 and later pursued the endeavor of creating her own publishing company, Rosy Press. Rosy Press and Fresh RomanceRosy Press is a publishing company that Janelle Asselin created after being laid off from Disney Publishing. Janelle Asselin hoped by creating Rosy Press she would be able to revive the genre of romance comics. Asselin funded Rosy Press and Fresh Romance via a kickstarter campaign. Asselin recruited a team of her colleagues to create the publication Fresh Romance which would serve as a magazine anthology of romance comics. Fresh Romance includes stories known as "School Spirit", "Ruined", and "The Ruby Equation". Some of the colleagues that Asselin recruited and hired for Fresh Romance anthology include Kate Leth, Sarah Vaughn, Sarah Winifred Searle, and many other talented individuals in the comic book industry[1]. Fresh Romance was first released in 2015 and was originally published as digital content, but later on had a printed edition published by Oni Press. Fresh Romance was nominated for a Dwayne McDuffie Diversity Award and a Harvey Award for Best Anthology . Janelle Asselin closed Rosy Press due to personal health issues and financial reasons in 2016. [2].
