Jan Lever (1922-2010) was a professor of zoology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam from 1952 until 1986. In 1970, he was elected a member of the prestigious Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.^[1]

From 1939 onwards he studied biology at Utrecht University. He obtained his doctorate in 1950. In 1952 he joined faculty of the VU. In his inaugural lecture he presented his belief in God's creation with the evolutionary process as the means by which God created. He developed this much more in his book Creation and Evolution (1956 - English translation 1958).^[2]
