Rosen Tabi) is a train simulator video game series, developed by Sonic Powered and first released in 2013 in Japan. The games uses real-life footage and takes place on existing railways across Japan. All Nintendo 3DS games of the series make use of the 3D-viewing feature on the 3DS which can be turned off optionally.

Gameplay

The game simulates the job of a railroad engineer, driving the local railway and/or monorail throughout the game. With a handle called the “Master Controller” and a brake, which can be operated by both buttons and the touchscreen. The player has to drive safely, pay attention to the signs and be on time in order to achieve a good score. While playing, information about attractions and sightseeing spots will be unlocked.

Journey in suburbs #1

Sold under the name Nagaragawa Tetsudou-hen (長良川鉄道編) in Japan. This was the first game in the series, making its debut in both Japan and North America, is located on the Nagaragawa Railway in Gifu Prefecture. Although the original Japanese version contained the whole 72.1 km long railway in one game, it was split into 4 parts for the North American release.[1] Volume 1 is from Mino-Ōta Station to Minoshi station, volume 2 is from Minoshi station to Minami-Kariyasu station, volume 3 is from Minami-Kariyasu station to Yamada station and volume 4 is from Yamasa station to the end point, Hokunō station.[2][3]

Journey to Kyoto

Released under the name Eizan Densha-hen (叡山電車編) in Japan. The second installment in North America and the first installment of the series released in Europe takes place on the Eizan Electric Railway in Kyoto and features a night mode.[4]

Monorail Trip to Okinawa

Named Yui Rail-hen (ゆいレール編) in Japan. Number three in North America and number two of the series released in Europe. This title takes place on the Yui Rail in Okinawa Prefecture and is the first game featuring a monorail. Night mode is also available here.

Journey in Suburbs #2

Released under the name Kashima Rinkai Tetsudou-hen (鹿島臨海鉄道編) in Japan. Just like Journey in Suburbs #1, his is the second unreleased game in Europe. This game takes place on the Kashima Rinkai Railway in Ibaraki Prefecture.[6]

Travel of Steam

This game takes place in the Oigawa Railway in Shizuoka Prefecture driving a steam locomotive (JNR Class C11 Type-No.190). The Japanese version, released under the name Kikansha Thomas-hen Oigawa Tetsudou wo hashirou! (きかんしゃトーマス編 大井川鐵道を走ろう!), was a collaboration with Thomas the Tank Engine and features a “Play with Thomas” mode, however, this was left out from the North American and European release.[7][8]

Featuring the Ohmi Railway Main Line in Shiga Prefecture.[9]
