Although he spent his early career as a pastor and educator, he is best known for his work as an editor and commentator for video game site IGN. He is currently a host with Kinda Funny Games Daily and produces his own documentary series Hop, Blip and a Jump as well as interview series Pockets Full of Soup. Early Life and CareerPetty was born and raised in North Carolina. He graduated from Fred T. Foard High School, in Newton, NC, in 1997. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Warner University. He earned a Masters in Theological Studies from Anderson University in 2005. Following graduation, Petty became senior pastor at the Community Church of God in Melbourne, FL. Petty joined IGN in 2013 as a guide write after a stint as a freelancer. Petty eventually would serve as writer, editor, content creator, and on-camera personality for IGN, appearing in over 700 videos and authoring over 1700 articles.[1] Following a year at Electronic Arts, Petty began creating content full time, supported by fans via Patreon. In addition to his independent work, Petty now serves as a host Kinda Funny Games. PatreonIn 2016, Petty left IGN and created Pockets Full of Soup, an interview series that focuses on understanding how the subject arrived at where they are today. Each episode begins with the question, "Who are you thankful for?" Petty created the show to highlight how a person's achievements are often the result of working with others rather than individual achievement. He strives to keep the tone of the show positive, "in attempt to promote the best parts of what we learn from others, even if the story that caused the learning is painful to hear."[2] Petty launched Red Dead Radio, a podcast covering the video game Red Dead Redemption from Rockstar Games on May 3, 2018.[3] The show is also available as video on Petty's YouTube channel. Hop, Blip and a Jump is a documentary series that shows the interconnectedness of games, attempting to show how an invention in one game inspires another. It debuted on February 19, 2018 with an episode called "He Is The Jumpman."
