Jai Adivasi Yuva Shakti (JAYS) is a group working among tribal youth in Madhya Pradesh. JAYS is mainly active in the districts that fall in the Western part of the state. HistoryJAYS was established in the year 2017. Its leaders initially worked among the tribals in Dhar district, claiming to educate them about the rights given to tribals in accordance with the constitution. This was almost the same time when tribal activists in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand were getting active as part of Patthalgarhi movement. Initially, it worked in the field of education among scheduled tribes (ST) in the districts of Malwa region. Later, it organised rallies and protests, aiming at political representation. Political partyThe group first tasted success in electoral politics when its candidates won in students' elections.JAYS leader Dr Hira Alawa had announced contesting Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. Later, just before the polls, he joined Congress and won the election. Still, he remains associated with his group. Many other JAYS' candidates also contested the election though others couldn't win. The newly elected legislator also gave a call for a new tribal state carved out of the parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Gujarat that have high tribal population. References
