PD Dr. Jean-Marie Wenger (born January 17, 1958) is a Swiss gynaecologist who specialises in deep endometriosis surgery.

Biography

Wenger graduated in 1984 from the University of Geneva, Switzerland. He was qualified as a Doctor of Medicine in 1985. He began a specialist training in gynaecology and obstetrics in 1996. After gaining his title of FMH specialist of gynaecology and obstetrics, he worked in a recognised center for the treatment of endometriosis, at UCL, Hôpital Saint-Luc, Brussels, Belgium and São Paulo, Brazil. Since 2004, Wenger has been focusing on the development of the endometriosis surgery in the gynecology department of the HUG (Hôpitaux universitaires de Genève) with more than 1'100 operated cases. In 2016, he received his “Privat Docent” in the gynecology-obstetric department from the University of Geneva(CH).

Career Focus

Wenger's experience focuses on the treatment and management of deep endometriosis complex cases in a context of advanced pelvic surgery, minimally invasive (laparoscopic) CO2 laser and including cases of invasive nodules of ureters, rectum and the rectosigmoid, bladder and vagina. Given the large numbers of cases, Wenger organized a support structure of endometriosis with specialised consultation, interdisciplinary conference and group of people working on clinical studies as well as on more fundamental issues.

Thesis title : « L’anasarque chez des patients traités par lavage-drainage de la cavité péritonéale pour pancréatite aiguë sévère ». Published in 1985 at University of Geneva, Switzerland. Thesis advisor : Professor Yusuf Kapanci, service of pathology, University of Geneva, Switzerland.

Awards

First prize for "Acute pancreatitis treated with early splenopancreatectomy rats. Survival and modification of remote lesions" in the Swiss Surgery Congress at Montreux, Switzerland in 1988.
