Jeanne Audrey Powers (July 5, 1932 - September 29, 2017) was a United Methodist Church deacon, one first women ever ordained by that organization. She came out as a lesbian in 1995 and was forced to retire early from UMC. Early lifePowers was born and raised in Mankato, Minnesota. Career and retirementFrom 1972 to 1996, Powers served as Associate General Secretary for the General Commission on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns.[1] Powers was involved in the organization and hosting of the 1993 Re-Imagining Conference, which was a meeting of supporters of feminism and female clergy in Minnesota.
