Jenius is an Indonesian online bank product and application that was created and developed by PT. Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Negara Tbk (Bank BTPN) (which now has been merged with Bank Sumitomo Mitsui Indonesia (SMBCI) into PT BTPN Tbk)[1]. Jenius is an online bank application which enables the user to open a bank account without having to come to the bank and bring paperworks. During registration the user must simply upload a picture of his/her Kartu Tanda Penduduk (KTP) along with a selfie next to the KTP as a mean of verifying their identity. The app is available on the App Store and the Google Play Store for both iOS and Android platforms respectively[2]. The app was launched by Bank BTPN on 11th August 2016[3] after a lengthy 18-months research and development phase with a total investment value of Rp500,000,000,000,-.

Features

The Jenius App enables the user to manage his/her savings funds all through a mobile phone or through a web browser. In the dashboard users can see the total funds available and to which account/card does that fund belongs to. In the dashboard funds are divided into three categories; Active Balance, Cards, and Save It. The app provides all the basic services that a bank client needs on a daily basis such as; fund transfers, e-wallet top ups, and split bill invites.

Save It

Save It is a feature that is available on the app to allow users to allocate funds to different savings schemes according to their preferences. Jenius offers three types of savings accounts; Flexi Saver, Dream Saver, and Maxi Saver with differing liquidity options and interest rates.

Flexi Saver[4]

Flexi Saver is a savings account that offers users an interest rate of 5% per annum. This type of account is a mix of deposit account and a regular bank deposit as the funds in this account may be withdrawn at any time without any penalties whatsoever.

Dream Saver[5]

Dream Saver is a time deposit product which allows a user to create a certain savings goal for a particular purpose. The user can initially choose the total amount of money he/she wants to amass at the end of the determined period. The user can put in a certain amount of money to the Dream Saver account and then choose how much money will be taken from the active balance (daily, weekly, or monthly) until his/her goal is achieved. Dream Saver offers 5% interest rate per annum.

Maxi Saver

Maxi Saver is the name for Jenius' time deposit product. This account offers interest rates of up to 7% per annum according to the chosen tenure. The minimum amount of principal to open a Maxi Saver account is Rp10,000,000,- and has a range of tenure from one months to up to twelve months. The interest rate offered for a principal less than Rp100,000,000,- is 6.75% per annum while a principal above that threshold will receive a 7% interest rate per annum.
