}}Joe Gale is a politician from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A member of the Republican Party, he is a current member of the Board of Commissioners of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.[1]

Education and Work Experience

Gale is a graduate of Temple University's Fox School of Business where he earned a degree in Finance and Real Estate. Upon graduation from Temple University, Joe began working as a Recording Clerk in the Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds department. In this position Gale saw how the county’s government worked and closely followed county operations. Joe then expanded his financial background in the private sector where he worked in the mortgage division of one of the country's largest home building corporations, NVR Inc.[2]

Campaign for Montgomery County Commissioner

Elected Montgomery County Commissioner in November 2015, Joe Gale's successful campaign is considered a major upset by political analysts who doubted that Gale’s antiestablishment message would win in suburbs of Philadelphia.[3]First, despite not having the endorsement of the Montgomery County Republican Committee, Gale won the Republican Primary on May 19, 2015.[4]After Gale’s victory in the Republican primary election, opposition from his own political party carried over into the general election.[5]But Joe, with an independent grassroots campaign managed by his younger brother Sean Gale, was able to garner enough support from Republican, Democrat, and Independent voters to win the General Election on November 3, 2015.[6]On January 4, 2016 Joe Gale was sworn in to a position on the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners.[7]Taking office at 26 years old, Gale is the youngest Montgomery County Commissioner in history.[8]His campaign also makes him the first Montgomery County Commissioner ever elected without the support of a major party establishment.[9]

Record as Montgomery County Commissioner

Joe Gale was elected County Commissioner on November 3, 2015 and was sworn in to office on January 4, 2016.

  • Opposition to Increasing Health Department Fees

In February 2016, Commissioner Gale voted against increasing the County’s health department inspection fees. Gale explained the dissenting vote as upholding his campaign promises of opposing higher fees and taxes.[10]s

  • Opposition to Increasing Vehicle Registration Fees

In August 2016, Commissioner Gale voted against increasing the County's vehicle registration fees. Gale explained the dissenting vote as upholding his campaign promises of opposing higher fees calling it a "money grab" by county officials.[11]s

  • Opposition to the 2017 Budget and Proposed 11% real estate tax hike

On December 15, 2016 Joe Gale voted "Nay" on the 2017 Budget and voiced his concern over the proposed increase and stated, “We have to do a better job of being fiscally responsible and prioritizing spending. What I don’t find responsible is an endless cycle of tax and spend when it comes to our budget." [12] Joe Gale further stated that two years of tax raises "a clear indication that we have a spending problem, not a revenue problem." [13] as he outlined his plan to make $7-million dollars in cuts by eliminating a few jobs, holding department spending, and eliminating contracts with consultants.

  • Opposition to Hotel Rental Room Tax Increase

On December 15, 2016 Joe Gale voted "Nay" on increasing the hotel room rental tax from 1% to 2%. Gale voted against that increase while Democrat Commissioners Shapiro and Arkoosh supported.[14]

  • Pro-Life Advocacy

On September 7, 2017 Joe Gale faced backlash during the public comment portion of the Commissioners meeting from pro-choice constituents. The backlash stemmed from Gale's attendance at an anti-abortion rally before a meeting of the Reading School Board which was about to vote for a health and sex education center at the high school that would have been operated by Planned Parenthood. The measure was later shot down in a 5-4 vote. During the meeting and in response to the criticism, Joe Gale stated “Abortion is the legalized killing of innocent unborn babies. I will always be an outspoken voice against abortion. I will not stand by when the lives of our most innocent and vulnerable are destroyed.”[15] Gale furthermore called Planned Parenthood “America’s largest abortion mill.” [16]

  • Opposition to 2019 Budget and Project Labor Agreement

Joe Gale called the proposed Montgomery County budget for 2019 unacceptable as it included an increase in funding for the Courthouse Campus project in Norristown. This initiative was originally estimated to cost $281 million but sharply rose to a shocking $406 million. That is a jump of $125 million, or 44 percent, for a plan that is already the most expensive capital improvement project in County history. Joe Gale was also a staunch critic of the Project Labor Agreement which would mandate union labor and in turn would exclude approximately 80% of other qualified construction companies from participating in the bidding process. Joe Gale states "Despite vast pressure from political insiders, I will not pander to lobbyists and special interest groups at the expense of Montgomery County taxpayers."[17]

Support for Donald Trump

On February 25, 2016, Joe Gale became the first elected official in Pennsylvania to officially endorse Donald J. Trump for President. Gale made the announcement on talk radio on the Dom Giordano Show broadcasted on Philadelphia’s 1210AM WPHT.[18] During the 2016 Presidential Election Cycle, Gale actively campaigned for Donald J. Trump including introductory remarks for campaign rallies featuring Ben Carson and Tiffany Trump.[19]

Re-Election

On November 13, 2018, Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Gale announced that his running mate when he seeks re-election for County Commissioner will be his brother, Sean Gale. Joe Gale's brother Sean Gale was his campaign manager in his successful bid to become Montgomery County Commissioner. In a press release Joe Gale stated “The swamp wants me gone. The Democrats want a RINO (Republican in name only) who is easy to grease and their establishment Republican friends want a RINO who is willing to be greased. This is why I am selecting a qualified running-mate that reflects the common-sense values of Republican families and taxpayers. This person must share my vision for winning back control of the county from a Democrat Party majority determined to turn Montgomery County into Philadelphia. That person is fellow pro-life conservative Sean Gale.”[20] The primary election will be held on May 21, 2019[21]
