JTC was founded in Jersey in 1987 as the trust and fiduciary administration arm of law firm Crills. The firm was subject to a management buyout in 2008 which saw it split from its law firm owners and become entirely owned by its management and staff.^[2]

The group acquired Caversham Fiduciary Services in 2010; it was the group's first acquisition.^[3]

In 2012, private equity firm CBPE struck a deal for a 40% minority stake in the company, with JTC’s management and staff retaining 60% ownership.^[4]

The group completed eleven further acquisitions between 2012 and 2017. In 2013, JTC allied with the Kensington Trust Group.^[5] In 2015, JTC acquired Signes, a Luxemburg administration business,^[6] and Swiss & Global Fund Administration (Cayman) Ltd in the Cayman Islands.^[7] In September 2017, JTC acquired Merrill Lynch Wealth Management’s International Trust and Wealth Structuring business.^[8] ^[9]^[10]^[11]

JTC was the subject of an initial public offering (IPO) on 14^th March 2018. The company’s initial market capitalisation was £310M.^[12]

Following its LSE listing, JTC acquired Amsterdam-based corporate and fiduciary services provider Van Doorn from International Capital Group B.V,^[13] and in November 2018 it completed the acquisition of Minerva, giving the firm a new presence in Dubai.^[14]

As of December 2018, JTC has offices in 18 jurisdictions and employs more than 650 staff and administers more than $100billion US dollars-worth of assets globally. Its headquarters remain in Jersey, with a presence in Europe (Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, Luxembourg, Netherland, Switzerland, the UK), the middle east (Dubai), South Africa, Mauritius, the USA (Miami, New York, South Dakota) and the Caribbean (British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands), and Asia-Pacific (Hong Kong, Labuan, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore).

Current clients include alternative asset managers, financial institutions, corporations, families and ultra-high net worth individuals.

Ownership

Since 1998 JTC has had a share ownership mode in place, whereby all permanent staff automatically become owners of the company through JTC’s Employee Benefit Trust (EBT). The business was 100% owned by management and staff up to 2012 when private equity firm CBPE acquired a minority stake in the business.^[15]
