June O’Sullivan is an educational pioneer and leader best known for her work in early childhood education. Since 2004, she has been the Chief Executive of the London Early Years Foundation (LEYF).^[1]

Her work at LEYF has been recognised as helping “the educational development of socially disadvantaged children in their early years.”^[2]

O’Sullivan has campaigned on a number of early childhood education issues. This has included the creation of The Ofsted Big Conversation, to establish mutually beneficial dialogue between early years childcare providers and The Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills (Ofsted).

Working with the University of Wolverhampton, she led an initiative to create a new degree for nursery teachers, known as the LEYF higher education staff development programme, that launched in September 2018.^[3]

O’Sullivan also led a recruitment programme to bring more men into the sector that resulted in the creation of Men in Childcare London. In 2018 she was appointed by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, to the Board of London’s Child Obesity Task Force.^[4] In 2019, will be launching the Chef Academy to provide training and an accredited qualification to chefs working in nursery settings – the first of its kind.

Under O’Sullivan’s leadership, the LEYF has grown to become a network of 37 nurseries across London. It is believed to be the UK's largest childcare charitable social enterprise. Recognition of the LEYF has included Group of the Year in the Nursery Management Today Awards 2015; Nursery Chain of the Year in the Nursery World Awards 2014; and Transformational Change of the Year in the National Business Awards UK 2012.

In 2018 O’Sullivan was was a Finalist in the Veuve Clicquot Social Purpose Business Woman of the Year Award.^[5] In 2017 Nursery Management Today named her the Most Influential Person in Childcare. In 2014 she was named Women’s Champion of the Year in the UK Social Enterprise Awards.^[6]

June O’Sullivan is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Trustee of London Hostels Association.^[7] She is also a Director of Social Enterprise UK, a Board member of the Early Years Nutrition Partnership^[8] and also of Generation Success^[9], now renamed BookTrust.

In 2013 O’Sullivan was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday honours for her services to London’s children.

O’Sullivan has published and contributed to a number of books. Her written work has been recognised and recommended by teachers, practitioners and educationalists, including the Director of Early Childhood at the Department for Education, Australia.
