Based in Seattle, Washington, (USA) the Jun Fan Gung Fu Academy is a martial arts preservation group founded in 2018 by 5th ranked[1] Jun Fan Gung Fu [2] and Jeet Kune Do [3] instructors Abe Santos and Mike Hilow. Both are former students of the Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute; a decades old martial arts club [4] [1] [6] founded in Seattle in 1960 by Bruce Lee. [1] [2] HistorySantos and Hilow began their formal training in the early 90's at the Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute (plaque image right). At that time the Institute operated out of the basement of an inner-city grocery store[6][4] owned by the Institute's head instructor, Taky Kimura. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] In April of 2001 Kimura appointed his son Andy as head instructor [5] [3]and moved the Institute to Woodinville, Washington [5]. Santos and Hilow stayed on in Woodinville as assistant instructors. [3] After a 15 year tenure in Woodinville, Santos and Hilow received three rankings from Kimura in the 3rd, 4th, [3] and 5th ranks. In 2016, the Institute relocated their classes to Kirkland, Washington. FormationIn March of 2018, the Jun Fan Gung Fu Academy was granted a non-profit charter (image right) by the state of Washington, shortly after, Lee’s widow, Linda Lee Cadwell issued a letter to the Academy addressing their efforts to further preserve her late husband’s teachings [1] (image right). .
