He is currently the Founder and Director of Indian Institute of Sports Medicine. He has worked for the Board of Control for Cricket in India as the team physician of the Indian national cricket team for 1989 West Indies Series. BiographyAfter completing his graduation in medicine, Dr. Kannan Pugazhendi was employed as Medical officer at the YMCA college of Physical education for almost 21 years. It is here he found his passion towards treating sports related injuries and the existing void in sports medicine in India. He established Fitness Foundation Academy, a Sports Medicine Centre to cater to underprivileged athletes and sports person to keep themselves fit. This small academy later turned out to be one of the leading sports medicine centre in India, known as Sports Performance Assessment Rehabilitation Research Counselling Institute. Also known as SPARRC[1], it was formed in the year 2006 catering to the needs of sports medicine and treatment for sports related injuries in India. EducationAfter completing his graduation in medicine and having worked as Medical Officer, he later went on to complete his Master's in sports medicine from New South Wales University, Australia. He also enrolled in American College of Sports Medicine for ACSM Certification[2] to improvise himself in sports medicine and exercise science. CareerDuring his career as Medical Officer at the YMCA college of Physical Education he was appointed as Team Physician for Indian Cricket Team for 1989 West Indies Series. He was also part of 1996 Atlanta Olympics as Sports Physician representing Indian sportspersons and as a Physician for Indian hockey team in 2002 Hockey World Cup. Later Dr Kannan Pugazhendi formed SPARRC focussing on sports medicine and sports related injuries. Recently SPARRC[3] celebrated its 12th anniversary in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India by inaugurating Indian Institute of Sports Medicine[4]. He also played the vital role of Lead Sports Physician for almost all Official Indian sports team as follows
