Karan Bhasin is an Indian columnist, researcher[1] and regular tv panelist. He's worked with several think-tanks and has been a vocal supporter of India's current government on its economic performance[2]. He shot to fame during a controversial exchange over twitter with Shehla Rashid Shora.

Born in Delhi, he attended Delhi's St. Columba's School. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in economics (Hons) from The University of London and he obtained a Masters degree in Economics from TERI School of Advanced Studies.

He has worked with Pahle India Foundation, Public Policy Research Centre and other New Delhi based think tanks. His research areas are in the field of economics and public policy. Over the last couple of months, he has been a vocal supporter of cash transfer programs as a solution to India's subsidy leakages[1]. He has been contributing to numerous magazines and digital news platforms as a regular columnist such as Governance Now[3], The Print[4], Swarajya[5], Organiser Weekly and OpIndia[6]. Over the last months, he has also been a regular panelist at several debates organized by Business Television India[7], Times Now and NDTV[8]. His sudden rise to fame came with the backdrop of a twitter exchange with Shehla Rashid post which he was appreciated for his calm and logical rebuttals. His research work on the economic costs of judicial overreach has attracted a lot of attention as several commentators have since then pointed out the need to evaluate self-imposed limits to judicial action- an idea first mentioned by Justice Bhagwati [4][3][9]. Recently, his work on implementation of a Targeted Basic Income [10]with Dr. Surjit Bhalla has gained a lot of attention as the government was considering a similar idea[11]. In the interim budget for 2019-2020, the government has announced a basic transfer of Rs. 6000 per annum for India's small and marginal farmers and this has brought the paper back into the focus as they had argued for a Rs. 6600 annual transfer for the rural poor.
