Katherine K. ChiaKatherine K. Chia is an American architect and educator. She was invested into the AIA College of Fellow in June 2018. EducationKatherine K. Chia was educated at Amherst College, receiving her Bachelors of Arts in 1988. Following this, she was accepted as a Masters of Architecture candidate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and she graduated in 1991. It was also at MIT that she met her husband and future design partner, Arjun Desai. CareerUpon graduation, Chia worked with the artist Maya Lin on a number of art and architecture projects. In 1996, Chia founded the design practice Desai Chia Architecture together with her husband, Arjun Desai. Her work has focused on the interplay of materials, light and structure through interior design and architecture. Over the years, Desai Chia has received numerous accolades including four American Architecture Awards, six American Institute of Architects Design Awards, an IDEA Award, and several Good Design Awards. (+citations) For her outstanding work, Chia has been selected as an AIA Fellow, an honor bestowed on less than 3% of licensed American Architects. Chia is currently a faculty member in the architecture department at Parsons The New school of Design and serves as the Co-Chair for the Van Allen Institute’s Program Leadership Council.
