Kelly Vere is the Higher Education Engagement Manager at the Science Council and Technical Skills & Development Manager at the University of Nottingham. Her work with the Science Council involves leading on our work with the Higher Education sector to promote a professional identity for scientists and technicians. She is a campaigner for the role of technicians and author of many articles about technicians.^[1]^[2]^[3]

In 2014 she was awarded Technician of the Year for STEM by the Higher Education Academy^[4].

In 2015 she was the primary organiser of first the "[https://warwick.ac.uk/research/rtp/hetscopy/technicians-copy/ Higher Education Technicians Summit]" which, "promotes a professional identity for technical staff in UK and Ireland higher education and beyond"^[5]. This is now a biennial event at which the Papin Prizes are awarded to technicians who have demonstrated excellence in their field. Previous winners of the Papin prize include Vicky Wilson^[6] for her work on the discover of DNA fingerprinting^[7]^[8]
