释义

Khanom Ko

Khanom Ko is a Thai Southern traditional dessert. It looks like Khanom Tom of the central part of Thailand but Khanom Ko has a smaller size. Also the stuffing inside Khanom Tom is made from the coconut sugar but that of Khanom Ko made from small pieces of palm sugar. Khanom Ko has a circle shape covered with shredded coconut. It has a sweet taste from palm sugar with a little bit of saltiness from the shredded coconuts. This Thai dessert is believed to inherit from generation to generation. Khanom Ko also has a long history in the South as local southern people believe it is a sacred dessert for celebrating sacred gods and spirits in Hinduism for example Genesha (Lord of success) and Luang Pu Thuat (Legendary Master Monk of Southern Thailand). Local southern people use local ingredients to make it for worshipping the sacred objects as a replacement of Khanom Doo that Indian people use to worship the Genesha because Khanom Ko is made from sugar and coconut.
