College athletes and coaches are notable if they have been the subject of non-trivial media coverage beyond merely a repeating of their statistics, mentions in game summaries, or other ROUTINE coverage. Examples would include head coaches, well-known assistant coaches, or players who:

KJ Hamler, full name Kahlee Jacoby Hamler (born July 8, 1999) is an American football wide receiver for the Penn State Nittany Lions of the Big Ten Conference.^[1]

Early years

KJ moved from his hometown in Pontiac, Michigan to Florida to play his final high year of football as a senior at IMG Academy. The IMG Academy is known for helping to groom potential college football athletes and a recruiting mecca as the campus is swarmed with recruiters evaulating talent for the next level. ^[2] Unfortunately, before his first career game at IMG Academy, KJ tore his ACL. ^[3] Prior to transferring to IMG Academeny, Hamler was a two year letterman at St. Mary's Preparatory School in Orchard Lake, Michigan. In his two years at St. Mary's he helped lead the Eaglets to the Division 3 State Championship. He was rated as a four-star prospect by ESPN, Rivals and Scout and a three star prospect by 247Sports. Known for his speed, he also ran track for two seasons, earning the Team MVP and Screaming Eagle Award. ^[1]

College career

Freshman year

KJ redshirted his first year as a freshman. Penn State opted to be conservative with KJ Hamler since he was coming off of an ACL injury sustained the year before. ^[3]

Redshirt freshman year

In the first game of his collegiate career against Appalachian State, Hamler returned a kickoff return 52 yards with less than 2 minutes on the clock to help spark a game-tying drive. He capped the drive off with a 15 yard TD reception with under a minute remaining, ending the game with 3 catches for 67 yeards and a TD.

^[4] In the biggest game of his career against Ohio State, Hamler was awarded Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after recording 4 receptions for 138 yards, including a 93 yard touchdown. Through five games, Hamler has recorded 13 receptions for 308 yards and 4 TDs in his first season as a collegiate athlete.

Personal

KJ is the son of Latonya Gooding and Thomas Hamler. He has one older sister, Michelle Hamler. He enjoys drawing as a hobby. KJ Hamler's nickname is the human joystick in which he earned because he is known for his quick shifty moves on full display since arriving in Happy Valley. He is believed to possess 4.34 speed.^[6]
