He is currently the official Spokesperson of the Andhra Pradesh congress Committee (APCC)[1]Personal Life and Education

Born in Vijayawada to late Mr. Kolanukonda Gurunatham and late Mrs. Samrajyam he had to discontinue his education in SRR & CVR College due to grave student politics. He is married to Mrs K.V. Lakshmi and has a son and a daughter.

Early Political Career

Kolanukonda Shivaji became the City Youth Congress secretary in 1985 and was nominated for being General Secretary in 1989.

He worked as secretary of  City Congress Committee (CCC) through the 90’s.

Was APCC publicity division General Secretary to the committee headed by late Mr. Dasari Narayana Rao during the 1999 elections post which he acted as the District Returning Officer (DRO) in the Congress party organizational elections held in Tamil Nadu.

From 2004 to 2008 he worked as an executive member of the PCC under the chairmanship of the then congress leader K. Kesava Rao further becoming an executive member to the APCC executive committee under the chairmanship of D. Srinivas.

Domestic policies and stancesInvolvement in Krishna delta’s farmers agitation

As the then convenor of the Krishna Delta Parirakshana Samithi he played a key role in the agitation of the locals to protect the Krishna River delta region by leading the movement and successfully rallying the support of farmers of that region behind the Congress Party’s efforts.[2]

The Amravati farmers land dispute

He took the initiation to bring social activist Medha Patkar who had led the Narmada Bachao Andolan to Vijayawada[3] in order to highlight the plight of the farmers whose lands were unilaterally acquired on a massive scale by the incumbent Telugu Desam Party government to construct the capital city in the Amaravati region[4].  

The fight for United Andhra

Mr. Kolanukonda Sivaji was in the favor of a United Andhra Pradesh and was actively involved in this campaign.[5] He played a big voice in dismissing the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Bill 2013 (An earlier version of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014).

He had cited that the way the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Bill 2013 was tabled in the Assembly was unconstitutional as the Bill was tabled by the Secretary of the Legislative Assembly apparently without the presence or permission of the Speaker. He also wrote a letter to then President Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, requesting him to intervene and bring order to affairs in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, stating that legislators from constituencies in Seemandhra region were being subjected to intimidation and physical assault by MLAs of Telangana region.[6]

Multiple arrests

There have been multiple arrests recorded between 1995 and 2004 during the governance of the then ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for protesting against the government’s policies.[7]
