Kotoo Motoo Chowk is the square of Shahdadkot situated in the centre of the town in the commercial area where shoping centers, Commercial Banks, Vegetable market, Meat Market ets are situated. This square is known as Hide Park for being centre of the political and cultural activities. All political parties stage public meetings, start and end processions and rallies at the Chowk. They usually stage sits-in and Hunger strike at the sight. Origin of the nameDuring 1960s to 1980s two Hindus Kotoomal and Motoomal had staged one stall of toys at the chowk which was upgraded as shop of toys. Both the partners were fast frinds and led celebate life. Due to their everlasting friendship and uniqueness of the business got enormous familiarity in the town and the Square received their name with spontaneity.After their death their business of toys came to an end. Now one bakery store is situated at the spot. Both friends and their said business have been the part of history of the town. Some religious political parties tried to change the name of square by calling it Siddique Akber Chowk to give honour to 1st caliph of Rashidian Caliphate but they could not succeed to change the minds of the inhabitants of the town. The name Kotoo Motoo Chowk is everlasting like their memories. |
