Krishnakunjaraiyer Veeramani (1936-1990) was a Tamil playback singer, who was active mainly in devotional song field. He and his elder brother K. Somu together made numerous popular devotional songs, most of them devoted to Lord Ayyappan of Sabarimala. Their most famous songs include Pallikattu Sabarimalaikku, Bhagavan Saranam Bhagavathi Saranam and Mamalai Sabariyile Manikandan Sannidhanam. He was the grandson of Koteeswara Iyer and great-great-grandson of Kavi Kunjara Bharatigal. His music tradition is carried out by his nephew Veeramani Raju and son Veeramani Kannan.

Early life

K. Veeramani was born in 1936 in Triplicane near Chennai as the second son of M.K. Krishnakunjaraiyer and Bhageerathi Ammal. His grandfather Koteeswara Iyer was a Carnatic music composer, who composed songs in all the 72 Melakarta Ragas in Carnatic music, and his great-great-grandfather Kavi Kunjara Bharathigal was famous for writing Azhagar Kuravanji, Skanda Puranam Tamil version and numerous kritis on Goddess Meenakshi of Madurai. He and his brother, four years elder to him, were initially taught music by their uncle Nagamani, and later they went additional training under Seerkazhi Sadasivam Pillai. They presented their first concert in 1952, when Somu was 20 and Veeramani was 16. In the same year, they started their music career, by composing and singing songs for a drama named 'Kadhalar Kangal', made by Mercantile Bank staff amateur troupe. Later, Somu was requested to write all the songs for a drama named 'Fabulous Fool', including a prayer song titled 'Sarvasakthi Vinayagane Saranam'. Until 1970, they composed music for around 500 dramas.
