Laura Benko (born June 6, 1969) is an American author, Holistic Feng Shui Expert, and Founder of The Holistic Home Company. She wrote about her diagnosis with polycythemia vera and how it led her to pursue Feng Shui in her book The Holistic Home: Feng Shui for Mind, Body, Spirit, Space (Helios 2016). In 2018, The Holistic Home book won the Gold from the Independent Publisher’s Book Awards [1]. She has also written The Holistic Dog: Inside The Canine Mind, Body, Spirit, Space. (Skyhorse/Helios 2017). Early lifeBenko grew up in Milltown, New Jersey and attended Spotswood High School in New Jersey. After high school, Benko attended William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey where she graduated in 1992 with a BA in Communication. 2000’sIn May 2001, Benko was diagnosed with a rare form of bone marrow cancer, polycycthemia vera and was told she had four years to live. She left her job in the film production and sales industry to focus on her health. While in a bookstore, a book about Feng Shui and health fell on her head. After reading the book and attending a lecture given by the author, she ended up working for her in exchange for going through her training program. After completing the course, Benko studied with other Feng Shui masters and eventually started her own consulting business. Benko blends ancient traditions and modern concepts, along with psychology, sustainability, organization and design. She has been heralded as a “modern master”[2] and widely acclaimed for having rebranded Feng Shui into a more modern, holistic approach[3] . She uses her skills as a modernizer of feng shui as a go-to lifestyle expert in addressing psychological and energetic aspects of a space[4]. Benko focuses on helping her clients achieve positive psychological and energetic transformations in themselves and the places they call home. She coined the term “Mind, Body, Spirit, Space.” Architectural Digest called her book “a modern take on an ancient concept”[5] and she was chosen by New York Magazine for “The City’s Best” edition as the Best Feng Shui Expert[6]. Benko lectures at Pratt Institute, teaching Feng Shui and Architecture[7] as well as a class based on her book, The Holistic Home. In July 2019, Benko will open The Holistic Home School of Feng Shui, a certification program based on the style of Feng Shui she founded.
