Laura del Sol Jiménez (born October 7, 1990) is a Colombian classical flutist. She has performed around the world and is known for championing the works of contemporary Latin American classical composers. In 2016, she released an album featuring music by contemporary Colombian composers^[1]. In 2015, she formed the Latino duo with Argentinean pianist Natalia Suriano^[2].

Early Life

Jiménez was born in Calarcá, Colombia in 1990. After learning the flute in Calarcá, Jiménez received degrees from the Pontifical Xavierian University in Bogotá, and the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.

Career

Jiménez has performed as a flute soloist in Argentina, Chile, Israel, Italy, Japan, the United States, and her native Colombia. She has also appeared as a soloist with the Cali Philharmonic Orchestra, Marga-Marga Symphony, Caldas Symphonic Orchestra, Manhattan School of Music Philharmonia Orchestra, and Universidad Javeriana Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra, Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra, and the CUNY Dominican Studies Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed with the Cooperstown Summer Music Festival, Portland Bach Festival, Gamper Festival of Contemporary Music^[3], and ensembles such as the Jupiter String Quartet at the Bowdoin International Music Festival and with Windscape.

Laura founded the Orpheus Cultural Foundation in 2013, dedicated to achieving social inclusion and encouraging the development of arts in communities devastated by Colombia's 50-year war.

Laura was a prizewinner in the Gran Premio de Santiago Flute competition in Chile, Colombia's Concurso Universitario de Flauta de Bogotá, Ciudad de Bogotá Woodwind Competition, and selected five times for the Biblioteca Luis Ángel Arango Concert Series.

As a teacher, Laura has served on the faculty of the Portland Conservatory of Music in Portland Maine, 317 Main In Yarmouth, Maine, and the Union City Music Project in Union City, New Jersey.
