Lel - the ancient Slavic deity of love, the son of Lada and Svarog. Traditionally considered a brother of Lelie. Described as a young god of love - the equivalent of Eros, Cupid, and Kamadeva in Slavic mythology. Almost young Lel sometimes plays with love, although he does it with sincere intentions - for him it is just a fun game. A good guy with curly hair falls in love with girls, singing to them and playing on a reed pipe.Lel appears in the spring, lives with his brother Polole in the woods. Together they come out to meet Yarilo. Reed pipe Lelya can be heard on the Kupala night. Scientists know very little about this god. And some generally reject the fact of its existence. Chronicles about him will not be remembered. The name of the god "Lel" is connected with folklore and linguistic features of Slavic languages. However, did indeed exist in the ancient Slavs a deity called Lel as described in the Polish historiographers of the XVI century. (Mehovita, Cromer, Stryikovsky) has been not known. It is believed that Lel as a deity was designed according to the model of the Amur (Eroth), since in those days (XVI-XVII centuries) it was believed that every European people had a mythology similar to ancient Greek However, there is a large group of scholars who have found and find evidence of the existence of such a god as Lel. They consider it one of the oldest in Slavic mythology. There are some myths in which this god stands. Traditionally, he is considered to be the god-protector of beekeeping. Because a bee that combines the bitterness of sting and the sweetness of honey was a symbol of love.
