Leo Raems is a Chicago Raised Artist who is now working and Living in Los Angeles, California. He was influenced by photography from an early age. Looking at skating and Graffiti Magazines was he's main inspiration growing up. He started taking photos in 1998 while doing train graffiti and skating as much as he could. His passion for photography and painting drove him to create all thru high school on the south side of Chicago. He carried a camera around documenting Breakdancing and hip hop in the late 90's and early 2000's. He attended college to study Arts and Photography mainly, but quickly became bored and dropped out before graduating. He continued to shoot photos and film 8mm videos into his early 20's. Leo traveled around painting freight trains around the country and shooting photos. His life took a drastic turn when he quit his job and moved the contents of his apartment into a storage unit on the south side. He hit the open road without a care in the world. He traveled around the country by bus, trains, and with friends. It was in 2008 he went to Bonnaroo Music Festival that he got the idea to start documenting Festival culture. It was after a couple of years of doing festivals when he moved to California to go to more festivals. The concept was born of trying to document west coast drug culture. He began shooting black and white photos of all the drugs being done around him. The drug and Music scene go hand in hand like Mac N' Cheese. He started taking photos of friends partying around him, so high to care if his camera was clicking away. References |
