They can be found in shallow estuaries and algal beds along the coast of South America from Ecuador to Argentina [2][3][4]. Predators of this species include the La Plata dolphin and mackerel[5][6]. Reproduction occurs through ovoviviparity in which the males brood eggs before giving live birth[2].
