Lisa Seacat DeLuca

Lisa Seacat DeLuca is a software engineer and inventor at IBM.[https://www.ibm.com/blogs/watson-customer-engagement/2017/06/13/umbrellas-query-based-volume-determination-life-inventor/] She is also the founder of ‘Splittix’ , a website that allows baseball fans to buy multiple seats at an event, paying for the length of time spent in each seat. De Luca has filed more than 500 patents of which 370 have been granted.

Early Life and Education

DeLuca graduated with a degree in computer science at the Carnegie Mellon University in 2005, followed by a master’s degree in Technology Commercialisation at the McCombs School of Business, University of Texas.[https://www.linkedin.com/in/lisaseacat/]During her time at university she worked as an intern in software engineering positions. DeLuca’s first encounter with IBM was in the summer of her junior year when she was accepted into IBM’s “Extreme Blue” Program in Raleigh, a 12-week global internship. In 2017, DeLuca received an honorary PhD from Claremont University.

Career

Before beginning her final year at Carnegie Mellon University, DeLuca accepted a position with IBM in Austin. Today, she is a distinguished engineer and director of offering management at IBM and is recognised as their most prolific female inventor.

Inventions and Ideas

De Luca's creations include a net of lights controlled by a smart device, a pendant necklace that lights up when a certain hashtag on twitter is mentioned and a laundry NFC which alerts one’s smart phone when their laundry is ready. Awards and Achievements

In 2017, Lisa came second in LinkedIn’s ‘Top Voices in Technology’ list, was ranked 6th in Onalytica’s list of Top Female IoT Influencers and received an honorary PhD from Claremont University. As well as this, IBM awarded Lisa ‘Working Mother of the Year’ for the Working Mother Magazine in 2015.
