The UNTV Cup awards a championship trophy (or cup) to the winning team at the end of each season, whether regular season or off season tournament.[1]

To determine a champion for the regular season, two rounds of elimination are usually held. The teams are divided into two groups, regardless if groups are balanced or not. On the first round of eliminations, the single round-robin format is used, where each team plays every other team in their group once. At the end of the first round, the top four teams from the two groups advance to the second round and all results carry over, while the other teams are out of the tournament. Another single round-robin format is followed on the second round, but each team will face every team on the other group. After the second elimination round, only the top six teams advance to the playoffs, and the bottom two teams are eliminated.

Since its first season, the regular season playoffs format is:

  • The bottom four teams are seeded as #3 to #6 teams. #3 and #6 teams face each other, while #4 and #5 battle in the other bracket. Both higher seeded teams have a twice-to-beat advantage against the lower seeded teams.
  • The top two teams from the second round of eliminations advance to the semifinals with a twice-to-beat advantage. The top seed will face either #4 or #5, and #2 team will face either #3 or #6. Aside from the twice-to-beat advantage, the get a sizable cash prize to be given to their chosen charities, regardless of their final position.[2]

To determine a champion for the off season, one round of elimination is usually held. The single round-robin format is used, where each team plays every other team once. At the end of the elimination round, only the top four teams advance to the playoffs, while the other teams are eliminated. Regardless of their final position, the final four teams get a sizable cash prize to be given to their chosen charities.[2]

The off season playoffs format is:

  • The four teams are seeded as #1 to #4 teams. #1 and #4 teams face each other, while #2 and #3 battle in the other bracket. The top two teams have a twice-to-beat advantage against the lower seeded teams.[3]
  • Unlike the regular season, there is no third place game for the two losing teams. Third place is awarded to the higher ranked team after the elimination round.
  • The two winning teams will face in a one-game championship for the trophy and higher prize for charity.[4]

The PNP Responders hold the distinction of being the only team to win a championship and finish undefeated, whether regular season or off season. They were 9-0 in the UNTV Cup Executive Face Off 2018.[5]

Championships won from off seasons shaded in red above are included in the table below. Judiciary's 2014 Clash of the Three title is usually counted by the media as an off season title, despite the fact that the Team Executives and Team Legislators are comprised of employees from various government agencies of that specific branch. The Media Team is technically a fourth-placer, but is a non-bearing team in the standings.
